A Note From The Editor
Fall is here
and for businesses that means it's time to review and assess our
marketing efforts this
year to see what worked for us and what didn't. Once we've determined what marketing strategies worked, we need to start planning for our 2010 marketing initiatives in the last quarter re-implementing successful strategies and trying new ones. Do you know if your marketing strategies are working? Do you know what's not working? Do you have a system in place to measure your marketing strategies? If your answer is no, you need to start working on a process that will give you these answers to ensure a successful 2010! To your
success,
Linda Belan

Most Common Social Media Mistakes
|
You've probrably read and heard about all the things you should do in social media but here's a list of what not to do. They're very common mistakes that others have made so you don't have to. Creating profiles everywhere: You may want to register your username everywhere so that no one can stake claim to your name or brand. However, you'll only want to be active on the social media sites that give you the most return in your investment. Once you've determined which sites these are focus your efforts on them. Not
completing your profile: Once you've selected the sites
you want to focus on, take the time to complete your profile and
becoming a genuine member of the social network by including your
photo, participating in discussions and offering value to your
followers. This will show other members that you are sincere and a
member to stay.
Friending everyone: You've probably heard the Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are the big 3 to participate in in social media and you start friending everyone that sends you an invite to become a friend. Don't do this! Choose quality over quantity. People who are not genuinely your friend will not click on your links, visit your website or buy your products and services. It's perfectly alright to be picky with your online relationships. Start selling to everyone: Social Media is a great channel for direct marketing, but relationships need to come first before you try to sell them your products or services. You'll not only be seen as a spammer but also someone run the risk of damaging your brand. Same strategies for all sites: Not all social networking sites are created equal and as such we need to use different strategies for each site. If you try to use the same strategy on all sites you will not get very far or be very successful anywhere. Not measuring your strategies: Know what you're trying to achieve with social media before jumping into it. Once you know this make sure you have ways to measure your goals before you invest time and money into it. These are some of the most common mistakes and I hope this has been useful in helping you with your social media marketing strategies.
